What is JUTA?
JUTA stands for the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association, a long-established cooperative of tourist transport operators. Its members provide airport transfers, tours and excursions across the island, and you'll see JUTA vehicles at airports, cruise ports and resorts.
How licensed tourist transport works
In Jamaica, vehicles that carry tourists for hire must be licensed for that purpose. Tourism-sector operators work with the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), the agency that licenses tourism businesses. A properly licensed operator will have:
- Commercial insurance that covers paying passengers
- Regular vehicle inspections
- Public passenger plates on the vehicle
- Clear identification: company branding, licences and contact details
